Whitby and the surrounding area is brimming with things to see and do. it is home to the world famous Whitby Abbey which was disestablished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under the command of King Henry VIII, it was Whitby Abbey which gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write Dracula. Apart from Dracula Whitby was also where the famous explorer Captain James Cook lodged as an apprentice & eventually trained as a seaman, leading to his epic voyages of discovery, with its rugged coastline and beautiful unspoilt countryside Whitby is an ideal place for a relaxing weekend or perhaps a longer stay.
North Bay Miniture Railway
Celebrating its 80th year scarborough miniture railway has been operating since 1931, taking passengers for about mile from Peasholm park to Scalby Mills Station, Offering beautiful views of Scarboroughs North Bay.
Whitby Abbey
Whitby Abbey is the perfect choice for a great value day trip in Yorkshire. It's easy to see how Bram Stoker was inspired by its gothic splendour when writing Dracula. This is one of the most atmospheric visitor attractions on the Yorkshire coast.
Old Glory
Whilst in Whitby why not take a ride in whitby's own steam bus 'Old Glory' The Bus is a 1931 DG6P Sentinel steam-powered wagon, converted into a 30-seat bus which operates on public streets for up to 280 days a year & is a great way to see Whitby.
North Yorkshire Moors National Park
The North York Moors are one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom. It covers an area of 554 sq mi, the North York Moors became a National Park in 1952, through the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act of 1949.
Scarborough Open Air Theatre
Scarborough Open Air Theatre is situated right next to the Miniture Railway and regularly features some big names from the music industry it has recently played host to Elton John & urban hip-hop group N-Dubz & has many more concerts planned.
